Africa does not go easy on infrastructure. Extreme UV exposure, high-velocity wind zones, corrosive environments, erratic municipal supply, and remote sites with no grid access — these are standard operating conditions, not exceptions. Off-the-shelf water storage solutions do not last. At Videx Storage Tanks, we have spent over a decade building storage systems specifically engineered to survive and perform across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Here is how we do it — and why our tanks are trusted by mines, municipalities, commercial developers and agricultural operations from South Africa to Zambia.
Built from Materials That Outlast the Environment
All Videx steel components are hot-dip galvanized in accordance with SANS 121 (ISO 1461), creating a protective zinc coating that withstands corrosive atmospheres far longer than painted or untreated steel. For fire protection and industrial applications, we also offer Aluzinc steel construction—a zinc-aluminum alloy that delivers superior corrosion resistance in coastal and chemically aggressive environments.
For potable water applications, our round tanks feature an optional internal food-grade PVC bladder system. This innovative design prevents stored liquid from ever making direct contact with the tank panels, eliminating corrosion risk and extending the operational lifespan of the reservoir. The bladder formulation is plasticized and coated on a polyester woven fabric, certified safe for drinking water contact.
Engineered for High-Velocity Wind Zones
Southern Africa includes some of the most wind-prone construction environments on the continent. Standard tank designs fail here — panels warp, structures fatigue and seals degrade under sustained cyclical loading.
Videx circular tanks incorporate an exclusive in-house design of radial and vertical stiffeners that reinforce the tank shell against extreme wind forces. This is not a bolt-on aftermarket feature. It is integrated into the manufacturing process at our Wadeville, Germiston facility, where over 350 employees process approximately 3,000 tonnes of steel every month.
For elevated water towers, our registered professional engineers perform complete structural analysis and wind load calculations, ensuring every tower is rated for the specific installation site. Lightning protection, ladder and platform access, and seismic-rated foundations are standard inclusions — not expensive upgrades.
Modular Systems That Scale From 2,000 Litres to 10 Million Litres
No two sites are identical. That is why Videx specializes in modular sectional steel tanks that bolt together on-site from prefabricated 1.22 m square panels. This construction method delivers an effectively infinite range of sizes and capacities, from compact 1.8 kL installations to reservoirs exceeding 5,000 kL (5 ML).
Because tanks are assembled on-site rather than transported as monolithic units, Videx systems reach remote and constrained locations that pre-cast concrete or polyethylene tanks cannot access. The modular approach also means tanks can be expanded later without replacing the entire structure — a critical advantage for growing mining camps, expanding municipalities and phased commercial developments.
Powering Remote Sites with Solar Integration
Electricity supply across rural Africa is unreliable or non-existent. Rather than forcing clients to depend on diesel generators — which are expensive to fuel, maintain and transport — Videx offers solar-powered pumping solutions as an additional service. These systems are ideal for remote mining operations, rural communities and agricultural irrigation sites where diesel supply is financially unviable and grid power is unavailable.
Combined with our bladder-equipped round tanks and sectional steel reservoirs, solar pumping creates a fully off-grid water security solution.
Real Projects, Real African Conditions
Videx Tanks has supplied and installed storage systems across Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Zambia and Zimbabwe — in addition to hundreds of projects within South Africa. Notable installations include:
Kumba Iron Ore — Thabazimbi Mine: Bulk water storage for mining operations
Assmang Chrome — Dwarsrivier Mine: Large-capacity reservoirs for industrial process water
Mafefe Village, Limpopo: Elevated water towers providing gravity-fed municipal supply
Diepsloot Secondary School: Reliable water storage for educational infrastructure
Each project was engineered for its specific site conditions, with in-house GA drawings, civil design packages and foundation schedules produced by our registered professional engineers.
SANS 10329:2020 Certified — Not Just Claimed
Quality on paper means nothing if it does not translate to the field. Videx sectional steel tanks are manufactured in strict accordance with SANS 10329:2020, the South African National Standard for pressed steel sectional rectangular tanks. This certification covers material specification, panel pressing accuracy, bolt torque requirements and sealing integrity using our EPDM gasket system.
Our factory coating processes also comply with AS/NZS 4020 for drinking water contact, and our quality management system is ISO 9001 certified. When a Videx tank arrives on your site, it carries the documentation to prove it meets the standards it claims.
One Partner, End-to-End Accountability
Videx Tanks does not outsource manufacturing to unknown subcontractors. Every tank is built at our Germiston facility. Our accredited crews perform every installation. This vertical integration means:
No middlemen markups
No blame-shifting between suppliers and installers
Faster project turnaround
Consistent quality from quotation to commissioning
Whether your project requires supply-only delivery or a full supply-deliver-install package, Videx manages the entire scope.
