Case Study · Fire Water Storage
Engineered water storage in a highly restricted working area
Videx Tanks successfully supplied, delivered and installed a 189.12 kL cylindrical fire-water storage tank at Southgate Mall in Johannesburg South.
The project required the tank to be assembled within a particularly confined services area, surrounded by existing buildings, pipework and mechanical infrastructure. With very little room available for conventional lifting equipment or large prefabricated components, careful planning and controlled on-site assembly were essential.
The 189.12 kL tank was assembled on site within a tightly confined services area surrounded by existing buildings, pipework and mechanical infrastructure.
The available installation area was tightly positioned between existing structures and operational building services. Limited access, narrow working clearances and nearby pipework meant that every stage of the installation had to be carefully coordinated.
Delivering a tank of this size into such a restricted footprint required an installation method that could accommodate the site instead of disrupting the surrounding infrastructure.
The modular construction of the Videx cylindrical tank allowed its components to be transported into the restricted area and assembled directly on the prepared foundation.
The installation team progressively erected the Aluzinc shell, internal liner, roof-support structure, roof and access components within the available working space. Temporary lifting equipment was used to raise and position the tank sections safely as construction progressed.
The tank's roof-support structure was assembled progressively on site using temporary lifting equipment within the available working space.
Videx Tanks delivered a high-capacity fire-water storage solution within an exceptionally constrained installation area.
The completed 189.12 kL tank makes effective use of the available footprint while providing Southgate Mall with dependable, purpose-built fire-water storage infrastructure.
This project demonstrates one of the key advantages of modular bolted steel tanks: large storage capacities can be installed in locations where access restrictions make conventional tank placement difficult or impractical.
From shopping centres and warehouses to mines, factories and municipal facilities, Videx Tanks provides engineered water-storage solutions designed around each project's capacity, application and site conditions.
